The popular Cine-Matic, movie series at the JavaVino Coffee Shop, 424 Main street, will feature the W.C. Fields classic “It’s a Gift” this Wednesday night, August 29th.

There is no admission charge.

According to Racine film historian James L. Neibaur, curator of the Cine-Matic film series, “It’s a Gift” features W.C. Fields at the height of his career.

“He was a popular vaudeville and burlesque star, but his dry comedy did not translate well to silent movies, although he made several,” Neibaur said. “After the talking picture revolution, Fields came into his own. ‘It’s a Gift’ is considered by many to be his greatest achievement.”

W.C. Fields enjoyed a resurgence in popularity during the late 1960s and early 1970s, some thirty years after his death, when college students embraced his iconoclastic style. Unfortunately, he has since been forgotten. He remains one of the truly great humorists of American cinema.

“It’s a Gift” is scheduled to be shown at 6pm and all ages are welcome. Please plan to arrive early and get situated before the movie begins.
