POETRY ROUNDTABLES!!!!!

June 18th, 2008 · No Comments

THURSDAY, JUNE 19TH 7-9PM
JAVA VINO COFFEE SHOP
424 MAIN ST. DOWNTOWN RACINE

The Poetry Roundtable Series.

The Racine Public Library and JavaVino have been collaborating on recently. Basically, the events consist just of a small group of people gathering to read and talk about the work of a different poet each month.

Hey friends! I compose this a mere twenty four hours away from the next Poetry Roundtable and my excitement overfloweth. This month we’ll be looking at the poetry of Ishmael Reed, one of the most important African American poets living today and, along with Amiri Baraka, probably the most controversial (as is par for our course). Interested in finding out more about him? Check out the Roundtable website: http://www.racinelib.lib.wi.us/ContemporaryAmericanPoetry.htm
Seriously, just looking at the grizzled features of this bear of a man will have you wanting to discuss poetry…somehow those things are connected, I’m sure.

If you plan on attending, as always, shoot me back an e-mail saying so. That way I can make an adequate amount of copies of the poems. If you just show up, well, you might just end up having to share your copy with someone else. This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Or, better yet, a hideous one?

Last Poetry Roundtable there were only a few of us, but we all had a great time and helped support Java Vino’s business quite a bit between the few of us. Let’s show Java Vino more love this time around and talk about the finer things in life. Poetry! Inspiration! Love! Etc! (The etc. is my favorite part).

Thanks a ton to the homeboys and girls of the last Roundtable and I can’t wait to see ya’ll this Thursday!
